East Midlands Cyber Security Cluster (EMCSC) was delivering the first East Midlands Cyber Security Summit. The DSIT-funded event - aimed at giving SMEs practical, non‑technical guidance on cyber risk - was booked to take place at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).
EMCSC's ambition was to reposition cyber security as a C‑level priority - from ‘just an IT issue’. This required attracting the right mix of business leaders and tech specialists, establishing the Summit as a flagship date in the regional cyber calendar. It also needed to allocate all available tickets.

EMCSC needed targeted communications that would cut through, tell compelling stories about the speakers, and convert awareness into registrations. This meant a mutli-agency campaign spanning business, university, and government comms offices.
Working alongside long-time associate Bulb Studios, 1284 led strategic comms and PR. We also supported tactical delivery both in the run-up to the Summit and on the day itself. The objective was to turn expert insights into clear, accessible stories for SME audiences.
Key elements included:
The Summit received 4.8/5 in delegate post-event feedback. Delegates described the Summit as ‘truly valuable’, ‘really insightful and interesting’, ‘strong and timely’ and ‘a brilliant example of an academic mind understanding the needs of business and acting to do something practical about it.’
