Joseph Bentley won the James Dyson Global Prize for his undergraduate final project - a concept for a device stemming fatal blood loss from knife wounds.
He launched ACT Medical as a startup to take the groundbreaking product to market.
However, the process of taking his product was unusual in that it came after a wave of global interest.

1284 was commissioned on several comms projects which were designed to start building the company's marketing foundations after the early wave of international publicity.
ACT was in the unusual position of receiving global attention for a prototype. Joseph had interest from a string of investors and Government agencies. He had also appeared on major platforms including BBC Breakfast and CrimeWatch.
The immediate opportunity lay in harnessing the most productive opportunities.
1284 provided SEO copywriting for a new website and applications for innovation funding, prestigious fellowships, and technology awards.
Strategic selection of applications would help to build the profile and networks needed to develop his REACT device.
Meanwhile, we supported Joseph on his successful application for an an 1851 enterprise fellowship with the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Fellowship enabled him to accelerate his plan for product development and testing, enabling him to get his device into the hands of first responders as soon as possible. It also came with an award of £50,000 of funding to help Joseph continue with the development and testing of the system.
In addition, we supported on successful award nominations for several innovation events - raising the profile of the young company among investors as it navigated the key startup phase.
