East Midlands Cyber Security Cluster

EMCSC is a community interest company which is a regional cluster under the national UKC3 network.
Its mission is to raise awareness of effective cyber security and promote careers in the industry.
However, after being founded in 2023, it had no formal brand identity and little public profile.

1284 was asked to help raise the profile of EMCSC among business and potential partners within the East Midlands region.
Having been founded only six months before, it had no brand and limited footprint on social media.
1284 prepared a communications strategy and project managed creation of a new brand and guidelines.
We then used the agreed strategy to write SEO content for a focused brochure website.
Once live, we commenced a LinkedIn campaign to funnel B2B interest into attendance at EMCSC events, as well as providing press releases and ghostwriting support for thought leadership opportunities.
This was underpinned by building relationships with comms teams at regional and national partner agencies.
EMCSC then secured £150,000 from Innovate UK to run a business-focused Cyber Local programme across the East Midlands.
1284 was commissioned to project manage comms, working with 1284 Associate, Jim Willis, to develop a project brand and digital presence spanning website, Eventbrite, social media, partner comms, and regional B2B media.
Meanwhile, 1284 supported EMCSC to develop a White Paper formed from original research EMCSC gathered as part of Cyber Local.
This included presenting the paper in a PDF and flipbook, working with a host of partners across industry, policy, and higher education to publish to a host of regional, national, and industry journalists.
1284 then supported EMCSC founder Dr Ismini Vasileiou with comms as she launched the White Paper in Westminster with the backing of the APPG for Cyber Innovation.
The profile of the cluster grew, winning support from major partners including the UK Cyber Security Council and the East Midlands Regional Defence and Security Cluster.
