Slashing the editorial burden on policy comms content

SITUATION.

East Midlands Chamber (EMC), the UK's largest chamber of commerce, needed a low-risk AI pilot to support a wider investment strategy.

Comms Officers tracked news, filtered for relevance, drafted statements from scratch and chased one of two directors for sign-off.

This slow workflow took up to three hours - limiting EMC’s ability to shape policy debates and keep members updated in real time .

1284 Communications identified using generative AI to solve a common workflow bottleneck.

INTERVENTION.

1284 Communications identified the challenge as an ideal use case for the AI pilot.

We audited EMC’s channels, tools and outputs, then worked with Digital Planning to specify and deliver AI News Editor - a generative AI editorial platform trained on EMC’s press releases and regional policy manifesto.

AI News Editor monitors digital newsfeeds, flags relevant policy stories, and generates draft media statements in near real time.

The platform routes drafts through a streamlined Director approval flow - preserving oversight for officers while cutting delay and editorial burden.

1284 embedded EMC comms officers in scoping and testing to fit existing workflows and drive adoption of the new system.

The pilot launched in November 2025 with immediate impact on EMC’s policy comms. Measured media release response time to government announcements fell by 58%.

The PR platform project was delivered on time and on budget - significantly reducing editorial and admin workload.

That freed comms officers to launch a interview-based member podcast focused on interviews and insight - something that AI could not replicate.
