1284 Communications was back on the exhibition floor as the region tackled growth through making at the East Midlands Manufacturing and Trade Conference 2026.

Manufacturers and exporters from across the East Midlands gathered to look at ways to  break down barriers to expansion, track fast‑changing technology and trade conditions, strengthen skills, raise productivity.

Hosted by East Midlands Chamber, the event brought together industry leaders, education providers, policymakers and innovators for a full day of keynotes, panel debates, workshops and exhibitions.

The aim was to pinpoint where change can be enacted - and how policy and practice can be shaped to protect the East Midlands’ industrial heritage while driving competitiveness in a sustainable and inclusive way.

Alongside the key speakers and workshops, exhibitors played an active role in showcasing what they do, starting conversations and helping to shape the wider discussion about growth opportunities for regional manufacturers including nuclear, defence, and export from East Midlands Airport.

For 1284, exhibiting at the conference was an opportunity to connect directly with the businesses, educators and innovators shaping the East Midlands’ economic future.

Throughout the day, visitors to the 1284 stand discussed practical questions around narrative, messaging and choosing the right channels: how to explain complex products, how to highlight innovation and skills, and how to make sure good news travels to the right people.

1284 Managing Director George Oliver said: “What makes this event valuable is the mix of perspectives. You hear the big picture stuff about policy, supply chains and skills, but you also hear the experience from businesses on the ground.

“The conversations between sessions are really useful - talking with businesses about their challenges, their ambitions, and how they can better tell their story in order to unlock new opportunities.”
