Amy joins board of trustees at Menphys

1284 Account Director Amy Orton has joined the board of trustees at Menphys - a Leicestershire charity supporting children and young people with disabilities and their families. 

Amy will attend her third meeting this month and will be added to the Charity Commission website as a trustee. 

1284 has worked with the charity for more than two years and is a member of its Menphys Sports Club business networking group.

The charity’s mission is to support young people with disabilities to have equal choices and opportunities and live ordinary lives.

The charity has been supporting families across Leicester and Leicestershire for more than 50 years, offering services includinfg:

  • Family support
  • Activity and holiday clubs
  • Employability programmes

Last year Amy ran for Menphys in the 10k at the Run Leicester Festival.

Amy said: “I’ve worked with Menphys pretty much since I started with 1284 so have seen first hand the impact of its work. 

“The charity has had a challenging couple of years but now is a great time to get involved and hopefully use my experience and insight as it continues to grow. 

“I’m also relieved to be helping out in a way that doesn’t require me running or getting up on a stage again!”

Amy’s appointment comes as she continues her work towards an MSc in Strategic Leadership at Loughborough Business School. 

She added: “I’m already seeing the benefit of my uni work and studies in terms of my approach to the trustee role.

“I’m looking forward to applying more of my learning and experience in a positive way.” 

1284 has a proven track record of supporting local charities and volunteering in governance roles. 

1284 Managing Director George Oliver is the current Chair of Charity Link after serving as a trustee since 2019.

He said: “1284 is committed to providing purposeful support to local charities and community organisations. 

“I know Amy will add value to the board while also developing her own skillset.”
