1284 Communications has joined the small number of UK public relations agencies which have achieved ISO 9001.
ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely used quality management standard. It is designed to help organisations continuously improve their processes, while enhancing customer satisfaction and achieving consistent quality.
1284 gained the certification process following an audit process led by the BSI. Work began earlier this summer.
It’s been thought that only a small handful of UK public relations agencies hold ISO9001. Some estimates put the figure at less than 5%.
Achieving ISO 9001 means that 1284 Communications is able to evidence efficiency in its processes, enhance product quality through consistent quality control, and continuously adapt to change and competitiveness.
PR and communications as an industry is not typically associated with the ISO quality standard, which is usually linked to manufacturing and technology companies.
It means 1284 Communications can now evidence working to the same high level of quality as its award-winning B2B clients.
Operations Director Suz Everitt, who led the accreditation project, said: “It was important for 1284 to secure certification from BSI because we are an ambitious business which takes campaign quality seriously.
"ISO9001 is the gold standard for quality, so that was the one we wanted to test ourselves against.
“The process we have been through with the BSI auditors has been valuable for us, as not only has it led us to shaping more efficient workflows and clearer accountability, but it also distinguishes us from other agencies.
“Of course, it’s just the start: ISO 9001 expects us to continue strengthening processes, enhancing the services we offer, and searching for new ways to deliver consistently high standards for our clients.”

1284 went through the ISO 9001 certification process with the support of the Leicester Productivity Programme. It enabled the team to commission expert consultancy from Loughborough-based manufacturing and engineering process specialists at Sirius Transformation.
Account Executive Lauren Cropper, who is now 1284’s Internal Auditor, said: “We have been working hard on achieving ISO 9001 for most of the year, putting new systems and processes in place, and working closely with the Sirius team to gain knowledge of the standard, as well as learning the systems, tools, and techniques needed to implement it.
“We had an excellent experience with the BSI, with its assessors drawing our attention to further improvements which we might make and which we are now actioning as part of our ongoing quality systems.”
1284 Communications was audited by BSI Group, which is one of the world's leading accreditation certification organisations.
