1284 founder George Oliver described the innovative way Charity Link provides essential items for people in need during a business speech in Leicester.

He was invited to speak to members of Charity Link’s Proud Business Supporters club in January 2023.

It was staging a networking event at the Leicester city centre offices of Readings Property Group.

George spoke on the theme of why businesses don’t join charity business clubs.

And he outlined the innovative way Charity Link turns every £10 donated into £50 of essential items by untapping funds from charitable trusts and benevolent funds across the UK. It means:

  • Gold Members who give £100 a month turn their investment into £6,000 of essential items provided
  • Silver Members who give £50 a month turn their investment into £3,000 of essential items provided
  • Bronze Members who give £20 a month turn their investment into £1,200 of essential items provided

George said: “Club members tailor their involvement to suit their needs, so there is something for small businesses as well as more established firms.

“Say your turnover is £50,000. If you are a bronze member of our club you are budgeting less than 0.5% of your income for an off-the peg CSR strategy that delivers £1,200 a year into the local community.”

Charity Link has been operating in Leicestershire since 1876. George became a trustee in 2019.
